Hunger Games Box Office prediction (theater, comedies, horror, romance)

I'm going to guess $285 million domestically. I think it will bring in $118 million this coming opening weekend, $82 million the following and $85 million spread out over the following 4 weeks after that.
Maybe so, but only because it has been overhyped to the point that people get curious enough to fork over their cash to watch it. But the movie is boring, unoriginal, soulless. It has produced no new insights into the topic it is supposedly dissecting.
I caught a Saturday afternoon show. The theater was crowded, but not packed. Lots and lots of teenagers. That usually makes me decide to see another movie, but his crowd was remarkably well behaved. Very caught up in the story.
Just saw it yesterday, and I agree with you 100%. I had high hopes for the movie, but it is nothing more than a combination of Time Machine (the two classes of the society - the ruling class and the slave class) and The Truman Show, with some teen romance thrown in. Not a "bad" movie, but nothing original or interesting for me. Now that I know, I will pass on the sequels !!

It's curious that so many people are dismissing Hunger Games because it's "derivative" of other movies. What romantic comedies, or gangster movies, or horror movies, or murder mysteries are completely original and have no shared plot elements with other movies of their type? Hunger Games is a wildly popular movie based on a wildly popular series of books. It is what it is. It doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable.
I can't name one thing that makes Hunger Games such a box office hit.....other than the pre-release hype that's been telling us it will be a box office hit. Sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Herd mentality at work. I grant Jennifer Lawrence a strong acting performance in a flawed, un-interesting movie.
What do you think was flawed about it? Or is the mere fact that you didn't like it a flaw? Obviously not eveyrone is going to like every movie, but aside from the shaky camera work, I had no issues with Hunger Games. It was an exciting and pretty faithful adaptation of the book.

Exactly. I can understand why people might not like it, but it certainly is not a bad movie in any certain type of way. For someone to day it was one of the worst movies they saw they would have to be EXTREMELY EXTREMELY PICKY.
