Ive been seeing public announcement signs warning people about shooting cut grass into the street and leaving it there, and how its apparently very dangerous to motorcycles.
To be honest, this is the first year Ive seen anything like this. Anyone know where this is coming from or why it started recently?
I've never heard of anything like that, but it sounds like your community has at least a bit of concern for motorcyclist's
safety. I see that as a good thing.
We had a couple of neighbors get into a bit of a pissing contest over this last summer. The guy at the front of the neighborhood was blowing all of his clippings out into the street. He is the first house coming off the main road (45 mph) onto our side street (25 mph). Two of the guys at the back of the neighborhood who ride motorcycles asked him to please stop due to the safety issue for them. The guy at the front of the neighborhood accused them of harassing him. They're still not on speaking terms yet.

Absolutely. In most locales it is illegal and, in one of my neighborhoods, the police with stop and cite a homeowner if the police find grass clippings on the road. Not a danger to drive on so much as they plug sewer grates and storm sewers.

Grass clippings and other material on the highway can be very dangerous to motorcycles. You hit a bit of grass or dirt in a turn and you'll be off the bike before you know what happened. Ask me how I might know )
The clippings are dangerous because they cause instant loss of traction between the tires and the pavement, and if they're wet, it's 10 times as bad. This should be common sense. And why do homeowners think they're entitled to discard their refuse into a public street anyway?

Common sense what’s that people today only think about themselves and could care less about everyone else, that’s the kind of world we live in today they don’t think about what would happen as long as it makes their lives easier.
