In some parts of France, all kids are made to wear safety vests on their way to school, as in photo below.
Should we do the same to reduce risk of accident ?

Judging by the amount of day-glo pink (both sexes) that walks past my house every morning, I'd say it's not needed.

If the kids were walking at dawn or dusk (when the reflective strips on the vests would shine), I would say yes. Unfortunately, drivers become used to seeing bright colors and ignore them (not always, but road signs are bright yellow, stop signs are bright red, emergency vehicles, school buses, etc...). Drivers blow through stop signs, don't yield, don't stop for the flashing lights on the bus... I am not sure a bright colored vest would make a huge difference in regards to safety.

No. I think that teens should learn how to stop and look.

No, and it wouldn't be sexy enough for the teen girls wear or for the boys to look at.

Yes, and goggles, ear plugs and a hard hat with a flashing light on top.

Haven't you heard we all drive our kids to the school's front door and then hold their hands all the way to their desks? There is nothing that can penetrate that cocoon of safety.

Besides, I thought all French teens looked like this:

Not just kids, but for reasons of safety, motorist are required to have those vests at all times(not sure if it's wide spread EU regulation now, was in France. at the time I was there), in their car...if there is accident or u have to stop for emergency u are required to wear one...they are trying to prevent accidents...as so many ppl are dying tragically, standing besides their vehicles in dark or when visibility is bad...

long time ago when I was a kid (in my home country)and taking in cosideration that most kids walk to and from the school...in first and second grade, we are wearing reflective scarfs...

I grew up and went to school in Scotland. In the dead of winter it got light at 08.30am and dark at 3.30pm and I always walked to school. So, I can see how a high visibility vest can be desirable when kids are going to school or returning home in the dark.

Of course, they hadn't thought of that in my day so we just took our chances with the traffic
