Am I the only English-speaking North American who strongly supports Quebec being ONLY French-speaking? I do not speak French at all, but I love visiting Quebec and seeing only French signs. I dislike seeing English signs even though I speak the language. French is the major part why many of us love visiting Quebec because we get a taste of France in North America! If it becomes bilingual, then it would suck and French will be in decline and Quebec would become like rest of Canada and North America.

Please support ONLY French in Quebec and increase bilingualism in rest of Canada. Let Quebec be unique and charming.

So... do you use a dictionary the entire time you are here? You only read menus/speak to hotel staff in a language that you do not speak??

Lets be honest, the majority of Americans love going to Montreal for the french girls (strip clubs), not the french language.

That's the thing you said "Becomes" bilingual. Quebec was always bilingual for hundreds of years until the seps decided to rewrite history. At one point, Montreal was even majority English. You don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Charming for who? Why is it charming? It's as if you want French culture to exist in Canada just so you can enjoy its "charm" when you visit as a tourist.

You are correct that there were a couple of centuries of more or less official bilingualism after British conquest but it is not true that the separatists made French the only official language: that was the Liberals in 1974. Then in 1977 the PQ took things further with the Charter of the French Language, also known as Bill 101.

This is true, but the duration of this is usually greatly overstated. Except for about 20 or so English-majority years in the mid 1800s, francophones have always been the largest group (generally by a wide margin) in Montreal.

The reason for the English-speaking majority during this short period was because Montreal was a major port of entry for migrants to Canada from the British Isles. Quebec City was also just under 50% English as well at that time, for the same reason.
