Only time I ever overnighted at Butte was up at Elk Park, end of June... there was still ice around the lake, and got cold enough overnight to put a fresh skim of ice on what had been open water.

It was really warm and melty until yesterday afternoon and then it just started snowing non-stop. Now we've got a bit, but blue skies. Not a good ski season at any rate so far. We've been out fishing and rabbit hunting the past 2 weeks.

My wife and I spent 5 days in the Bitterroot Valley, March 13 -18. We are looking to retire either in Northern Idaho or the Bitterroot Valley. This was our first trip to Montana. We had a great trip, stopping in NID also. I would like to thank everyone that posts on the board with suggestions on where to live, places to eat and lodging. My special thanks to Kevin & Heather at Bitterroot River B&B in Stevensville. They are the best, excellent rooms and meals and super hosts whom spent a lot of time with us discussing the merits of livivg in the valley. As we are still two years out we were not house hunting but trying to learn the region. We did find some property that met our wishes and was affordable. Also checked out some of the restaurants recommended here. We are looking at going again in September when we can float the river in our canoe. Again, thanks to everyone for you discussions about living in and visiting Montana.
Brian

It's the time of year. Small-towners go a little crazy.
