There is no evidence to suggest that any of these 100,000 consisted of troops from other states. There were called "Missourians", not Missouri units. I have numerous Civil War books, all of which stress that 100,000 Missourians fought for the Union cause. There is absolutely zero evidence that these troops came from other states. What I will agree to is that many troops from both Illinois and Iowa assisted the 100,000 Missourians.

There are no official numbers, but I will say a lot of stuff I've read as well says troops from other states were put into MO units were called Missouri.

Also a lot of them were from the stl area and were from New England and newly arrived immigrants as well who didnt speak English well so I don't even consider them real Missourian's at the time anyways. If you're goinig to serve in the US Military you should speak English. Same goes for today.

As for Confederate numbers generally the number I see thrown around is 50,000 to 60,000 not including the MO state Guard which not all of them joined the Confederates when they were merged into Confederate units. the MO state guard were technically not Confederates.

And like I said many were not American born or spoke English.

Oh and I saw the movie Lincoln today. Good movie. The maps in the background showed Missouri and Kentucky as Southern States.

Huh? The movie did also use the term border states a few times too. However the movie really didn't name any individual states. I recall the part where the MO senator voted Nay on the emancipation proclomation but that would be expected since MO was a slave state.

I didn't know that because I thought Missouri's senators were expelled from congress along with some of Kentucky's and Maryland. Actually one of Missouri's senators did. Guess that was the other senator then. Then again I would never use a movie to be an accurate description of history.

A star which was from an illegitimate secession, and I know you hate to hear that. Don't even pretend that having a star counts. The Confederacy recognized states which hadn't even seceded on their flag.
