Obviously the quality of the St. Louis and Kansas City Missouri public school districts played no role in the ranking process.

Did you thouroughly read this list? Did you not see that Detroit, Manila and Houston - three low-end cesspools if there ever were such - beat out St. Louis??? I would seriously challenge the validity of this survey/poll/analysis...

It's not a world class city. I can say that as someone who has been to every continent except Antartica and I don't think there are any cities there anyway. Doesn't mean it's a bad place, it just isn't a world class city in my opinion. I've been to Detriot and Houston and how anyone could rate Detroit above St. Louis is beyond me. Houston is a big city but nothing to write home about. They do have a large airport and you can get some good flights to central/south america out of there so at least Houstoners can take nice vacations. St. Louis requires a stop over to get almost anywhere out of the states.

I've flown non-stop out of the country several times as have my parents. I'm not ranking St Louis/Kansas City up there with Boston or Chicago, but both are great mid-sized cities to call home. Detroit and Houston may be ranked higher because they are significantly larger than STL/KC. Houston was just named the best city to call home in the United States by Money magazine. I think it had something to do with the tremendous job growth and the cost of living isn't too bad.

STL and KC both are underrated just for being in Missouri IMO. What I mean is, not many people think of visiting cities in Missouri, unless they are from the surrounding region itself.

Other areas in the Midwest are closer to Chicago (STL is close, but relative to other surrounding near cities such as Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Detroit, etc... it's not as centrally located). KC gets associated with Kansas..

The fact is Missouri itself has a lot to offer IMO. KC/STL... Columbia is a great college town.. Branson and the Ozarks.

I don't think KC and STL are "world cities" by any means... but outside of Chicago, NYC, LA, DC, and perhaps Miami.... I wouldn't label any other cities in the US as world cities...

That said.. I think KC and STL are great American cities.. with interesting history. Almost anyone i've known who has come to KC with no idea about it but just the opinion that its midwest and boring.... ends up loving the city, and is like WOW I can't believe i've never heard more about KC it rocks... i'm sure the same goes for most visitors to STL.

There are only 2 world class cities in the U.S. in my opinion. NY and LA.

STL and KC are both great cities. Both are major cities in the U.S. but fall short of the world class status. Thats not a bad thing. Both are severly under appreciated.

A world class city is a city that people actually WANT TO VISIT has opposed to HAVE TO GO TO.

NY, LA, Miami, Honolulu and Chicago (Maybe San Diego and Seattle) are the only American Cities that fit that bill.

St Louis is a World Class City --- It is also an ancient one

1000 years ago this was the most populated city north of Mexico and in 1100 AD there were not many cities in the whole world larger ---they are about to make Cahokia Mounds a National Park --no other city north of mexico can say that --- the Woodhenge and Monks Mound ( the 5th largest pyramid structure on Earth) make that clear --- strangely that fact is better known in Europe than locally.
