I am enjoying the warm and sunny weather, but still no rain or snow in the 10 day forecast! This is getting pretty concerning, considering Southern Minn. is in a severe drought. Every time they put a chance of precip in the forecast, its usually taken out the next day or so. I hope we get someting big before planing season begins. Geeez, and this time last year it seemed like the precip just wouldnt stop.

It was bad last summer already. Our house down there had HUGE cracks in the soil from the lack of rain. Any rain now, however, would pretty much just run off. Snow would help but we can be ok for a while but come early March, we need rain--enough to wet the soil deep enough for crops, not so much we see major flooding.

How come there is little snow on the ground and temperatures are tolerable? This is Minnesota. It's February. There is supposed to be lots of snow, ice, and cold, but there is hardly any at all. 2012 really is gonna be a weird year.

February 16 of 2011 there was a high of 52 in Minneapolis. That's not that different than now.

Actually last year the average temperature for February was 27. This year's is 34.. So it's been significantly warmer

Last year:
Nov. 2010 - 42 avg
Dec. 2010 - 22 avg
Jan. 2011 - 18 avg
Feb. 2011 - 27 avg
Mar. 2011 - 37 avg

This year:
Nov. 2011 - 47 avg
Dec. 2011 - 34 avg
Jan. 2012 - 31 avg
Feb. 2012 (thus far) - 34 avg

earl barker's maps have been showing a good snow event for the i-90 area in southern MN for a couple days now, actually it will pick up on stuff before the national weather service, though not all the maps show identical tracks even now.
