Does anyone remember the name of the shop toward the north end of the mall that specialized on glassware? All kinds of wine glasses, beer glasses, etc. I shopped there often for wedding gifts for friends.

There was never a Chick-fil-A at Mayfair Mall. People may be remembering one at the now-defunct Northridge Mall which was a popular retail destination and had its own Chick-fil-A for years.

But none ever in Mayfair which even today, for as flamboyantly big and as attractive a retail destination as it has become, still has a puzzling small quantity of choices/selections in its Food Court.

Mayfair used to be distinctive in its unique beauty...now it has become a more conventional mall but still quite distinct to the Milwaukee retail scene. It just never has been remarkable or notable for its Food Court selection, which has historically been small-ish.

I loved that ice rink! Even though we got many new stores when the mall remodeled, I took lessons there and had McD's for dinner afterwards. In 1981, you could get a cheeseburger, large fries and a diet coke for less than $2, may have even been the two cheeseburger meal! I'd sit and watch the skaters out the big windows you see at the end and we'd always spend part of our time watching the skaters from above.

Spencer's fascinated me -- all the novelty gifts -- I desperately wanted a lava lamp. I'm fairly sure there was an Orange Julius in the basement that y'all are talking about. Perhaps a pretzel place too? We'd get a snack and sit by the stream.

I also remember the opening of Grand Avenue - So exciting and it was just mobbed backed then. We used to take the bus downtown to go -- back in the days when parents would let a couple of young teens go downtown by themselves!

Our post-prom was held at the newly renovated Mayfair -- dinner, dancing and casino night. It may have been a joint event with Tosa West, I can't remember. It was great, but classic Mayfair will always hold a special place in my heart!

I came here nosing around for history on Mayfair Mall. Something reminded me that I sang on a telethon that was filmed in the ice rink - believe it was 73, possibly 74 - and now I'm curious if anybody knows what telethon that was and if the footage still exists in some corner of the Internet!

I loved the mall. Skated there all the time, ate McDonald's and bought ridiculous amounts of stickers to decorate my school notebooks with.

An internet search turned up an article from the Journal about the Ice rink. One image shows Arte Johnson and Henry Winkler hosting a Variety Club Children's Charities Telethon.

there were also telethons for United Cerebal Palsy
