Sean Hannity did a segment on Thursday night's show about a pro-football player who left the NFL to work for the border security or was it the customs dept and he's working along the Mexico border near a city overrun by the drug gangs. They said while he was in training two NFL teams called him wanting to sign him up and he turned them down to work in law enforcement. I count that as also serving his country.

Actors did in the day, when they gave a **** "enough" about their country more than money in their pockets....Gary Sinise is an exception to the rule, great role model..supports our troops in the war zone often..

Viet Nam Vet..

He's probably the most decorated living Hollywood military veteran today. Some other celebrities had some great tales of heroism in WW2 including Eddie Albert of Green Acres. Also, do any of you know of any modern celebrities who served in the Military who are below the age of 60? I can think of Drew Carey and Montel Williams but after that I draw a blank. I have a theory as to why Hollywood no longer makes great military movies. In the past, many of their actors, writers, and directors had actually served in the military. They knew what the military was about. Today's Hollywood doesn't have this pool of former military service members. Where are the Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Steve McQueen, Ernest Borgnine, Johnny Carson, Ed McMann, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, Mickey Roony, Chuck Norris, and many others?
I agree with the heart of your theory - Hollywood puts out bad depictions of the military because most of the talent & decision makers have never been in the military.

Almost all the names given here were draftees. How many All volunteer force vets are in Hollywood?

I know Drew Carey and rap/singer Shaggy were both Marines and they're young enough to not have been drafted. I think Montel Williams (first a Marine enlisted then a Navy officer) was also young enough to not have been drafted but am not really sure.
