JCI has announced plans to start up a new Lithium Ion battery plant in Holland (in an existing facility) creating 498 new jobs!

You know I am a cheerleader for Holland, and here's another reason to live here! I'm not sure, but I'd have to believe that beyond the state tax breaks and a strong local workforce, the lack of unions in the Holland plants of JCI had to make this a better bet than the Detroit area, etc.

So, come on down!: View Holland on Video! - Home

That's great news for West Michigan! Today's announcement also included $1.7 Billion in battery plant expansions in other parts of Michigan:

Awesome news for Michigan! 6,700 jobs, mostly on the east side however.

I might have to check this place out.

As a side note, I noticed that most of these are automotive-related, mostly in the hybrid battery field. Could the auto industry be coming back to MI, albeit in a different form?

Any job news in Michigan is good. This is awesome. Lets hope that the auto industry can stay in business for these battery makers.

Good deal, I know somebody who works for Johnson Controls down in Holland.

I know the State also gave DOW and a couple partners tax breaks for developing Lithium batteries as well, but they haven't made an announcement as to where they are going to be building their plant. Calling for an 800,000 square foot plant that will employ 885 people. Dow Chemical battery venture
