The area around the mall and SVSU is very livable.

There IS an apartment complex there but I believe the previous poster was referring to the many duplexes that line Weiss Rd in that area.

Those are in the Township. I have had friends that have lived there, partly due to the price of rent. I don't have an exact figure though, but I would call them. It is in the Township. The area it is in is the neighborhood I grew up in and it is very suburban, middle-class.

No, you shouldn't. What hospital were you going to work at again? That may make a difference. All of the apartments and duplexes that were being discussed are in the Township though and other than bored high school kids knocking down mailboxes, you are not likely to run into any trouble there.

I think your biggest problem may be finding a place that does 3-month leases. I had that problem when I moved to Ann Arbor but fortunately it's the summer and there are a lot of sublets.

If you have any other questions, get back to me. I know where to go and where not to go around there. I've had more trouble with crime in freakin Clarkston, Michigan (car broke into and multiple items stolen) than I've ever had in 9+ years in Saginaw.

Oh, there's another apartment complex, Waterside, near the mall which I have known several friends who have lived there. It's generally well-regarded though a lot of college kids live there and sometimes there might be noise issues or things like this.

What area would you recommend for a single women considering relocating to Saginaw, Michigan?
Are there any safe and secure areas to live? The crime data didn't look inviting? Did I lost my mind and should really re-consider?

I don't live in Saginaw but I've lived near it my whole life. The township is definitely your best option. There are parts of the city that aren't so bad, but the bad areas are expanding so fast there's no guarantee it'll still be a good area in a year.

EDIT: And take people's comments seriously. Sometimes crime is overstated. It is not in Saginaw. It is a very, very dangerous town. Stay outside of it. As far as a commute, I can't think of it being a bad idea during daylight. I've driven to whichever one is in the city a few times at night and wasn't too bothered by it either. Through most parts of the city you're probably okay driving, just don't linger.
