Virginia is a gorgeous state that has tons to offer. Mountains, ocean, big cities, mid size and rural communities, prestigeous universities. I thought about moving there a few years back, but went to Massachussetts instead. I did a long stretch in the south before that and am happy to be back in Michigan, but still wish you the best with your move.

It reminds me a lot of West Michigan (hills, trees, pines, lakes, ravines), just 10 - 20 degrees warmer on average.

I wish you the best...I moved away from MI about 8 years, I miss my family and Lake Michigan. But the economy has been so bad, it was the best decision I have ever made.

If for whatever reason someone decides to move somewhere, the best thing is get into the new place. Explore it, hike, find the scenic places, the fun things to do. Even if you prefer not going -- make the best of it and make yourself belong. There's no point in sitting around homesick, you can always go back home someday but in the meanwhile find out as much as you can about the things you'll like in your new surroundings.

I looked on the northmichigan snowman cam, and they got hit with another 8 inches of that cold white crap.
LOL, that cracked me up! I'm so sick of hearing the phrase "white stuff", yours is much more accurate!

Good luck on your move!! If our house were to sell today, we would be moving south tomorrow! I envy you!

We to have made the decision to leave MI. My spouse has 2 job offers, 1 in florida and 1 in Missouri. The house has held us back. At this point we have to walk away from it and hope for the best. Rent, sell, short sale?? With 2 children we cant risk staying here. I cant find a job after 11 months. Overquailfied is what I hear. MI has a long way to go and these are the best years of our kids lives.
