Also, I'm wondering if there are water tank distribution centers for people to fill up water instead of relying just on bottled water.

The former Mayor KilPatrick says SEMCOG, Genesee County Officials, some members of the State Legislature, and the Governor at that time knew of the problems with the Flint water back in 2004.

Former Michigan Governor, Jennifer Granholm, was well aware of the issues with the Flint Water Department, and their inability to produce contaminant free water moving forward, nor afford the equipment & technology to do so.

If he can be believed and this is true, I think there needs to be more than lawsuits. People need to start getting charged with crimes.

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick comments on Flint Water Crisis with letter from prison - WXYZ.com

Maybe all the Olde Tyme plumbing has reached its service life and is due (or over-due) for Remove and Replacement?

The stuff is truly NOT built nor meant to last forever.

I recall when my hometown replaced the Wood-Log pipes that supplied the town.

I feel bad for all of Flint's citizens. Clean water is a must and I'm so proud I live in a city that go above and beyond when it comes to water quality. Come 1 come all to Macon, Georgia; consistently among the cleanest water in North America.

According to the Michigan Radio documentary, there are 10 Million lead water service lines in use in the U.S. It might be time to provide funding to replace them all throughout the country. Of course then the tea baggers will say it's a waste of taxpayer money and the city's should do it themselves (even though most cities can't even come close to replacing everything).

Way to use this opportunity to plug your town. Please don't return to this thread. Thanks.

Since much of this is going to come out in the class action lawsuit, apparently Flint DID NOT have to switch from the Detroit system in the first place to save money. DWSD was offering a long term contract that would have saved Flint 20%. The EM appointed by Snyder decided to not accept the proposal.

The fiscal comparison between participating in the KWA project and continuing to purchase water from Detroit is a little bit more complicated then what is contained in a one paragraph E-mail.

For instance, what exactly is meant by the claim of a savings of 20%?

If Flint went with the KWA pipeline project, at the end of 30 years, they would have a 1/3rd ownership in the pipeline, a significant tangible asset that would be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. If they signed a 30 year contract with Detroit, at the end of that time they would have nada, zip, zilch.

It's essentially the difference between renting for 30 years or getting a mortgage on a house for the same time period. Your payments on the mortgage may be slightly higher but at the end of the term, you own the house instead of being out on the street with zero equity.
