We were looking at eventually moving back to the area but friends are telling us to look elsewhere because the quality of the schools has really declined. I understand that they recently reconfigured their grades to k-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12. I guess they are losing students due to this and the adoption of a math program (Everyday Math) that has been banned in other states?? Any other input would be appreciated, I like to get a variety of opinions since some of the friends may be a little overreactive.

I think Stevenson is still a decent high school. Then Churchill, then Franklin. If you're going to look in that area, you may as well go a little farther west to the Plymouth/Canton, Plymouth/Salem district.

Keep in mind that the better school districts change from year to year so If you are in elementary school age and you choose a place with good high schools, the high schools may change before your kids get to that age. They may get better, they may get worse. Schools tend to change pretty quickly. (3-5 years, sometimes less).

Right now Livonia seems ot be on the decline and they were not top schools to begin with. They are still reasonably good though.

Plymouth Canton is one of the top school districts in Michigan.

The high school situation is unique. Two high schools share one campus and kids can change from one to the other for special classes

Downtown Plymouth is wonderful.

Go look. You will be glad that you did.
