I may have the opportunity to move to the St. Ignace area. My wife and I have dreamed of building a log home in the U.P. We would appreciate any help with areas to search for a 20 - 40 acre parcel in the woods that would provide a good building site. Any other interesting facts on the area would be appreciated.

well hello! you are in luck. i was born and raised in st. ignace, i still have lots of family there.

well besides the usual jobs/economy discussion (you didnt ask so i'm assuming thats not an issue and you are well aware of the unique economic situations of the UP), i can tell you anything about the area where i grew up- perfect for building a log cabin. "carp river." ahhhhh.... i cant believe i get to talk about my home! well "carp river" is what the area residents refer to it. its the area about 10 miles north of st. ignace on mackinac trail. you are right by the river, with fishing and scenery. lots of woods and wildlife. great people, very undeveloped. depends on how far away from town you want to live, though- closest store would be the midjim convenience store on the reservation, about 5-7 minutes away. for groceries, you'd have to go into st. ignace.

brevort lake, pine river, and moran are also nice areas. but my heart belongs to mackinac trail and the carp river.

i dont know what other detail to get into without a better understanding of what you are looking for... you have some more specific questions, i'd be glad to help!!!

say ya to da UP eh!
