Hi everyone.

I have a rather odd question about relocating. My wife and I are going to relocate to another town and we aren't sure of the steps to take and we are hoping there has been someone that has gone through this that will help out.

I am employed in the town we live in now and she is not. We already know where we are going, it's about 3 hours from where we are now. Where our problem comes in is how do we secure jobs there in order to find a home or vice versa?
I know to go and look, that goes without saying, but without an address in the new town, how can we fill out any applications? But then..to rent a house, you need to be employed.

So do we go there on a weekend, fill out apps with our current address and state that we are relocating and can start in 'x' days?
Do we find someone that will rent to us, explain the situation, pay a couple months ahead and then look for work?

Thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much in advance!

Mark

One of my co-workers and his wife wanted to move to the Detroit area (where she came from). Last fall they sold their house in Jenison and moved into an apartment with a 6 month lease. After 6 months, they went month to month. While in the apartment, both continued to work in the GR area and searched for jobs in the Detroit area. Both indicated in the cover letters of their desires to move to the Detroit area during the summer of 2010 to be closer to family. They said they will relocated on their own. Employers didn't have a problem with it and worked with them.

She found a job in Sterling Heights and started the job about 2 month ago. She has an apt in Sterling Heights. My co-worker waited a while so that he can wrap up his project then resigned his position last week.

Now he will be looking for a job in the Detroit area. He already had a couple of interviews set up...he's a CAD designer.

It can be done...be sure to have some vacation time for interviews, etc. Good luck!
