I'm pretty sure it's not a beach house.

I believe Coronado is right on the coast, so you probably have the beach in back of that house. Not worth that much though, but given the choice, I'd choose San Diego over South Florida, 1,000,000 times over.

I would say it isn't beach front but maybe close to the beach. Housing prices in CA are unbelievable to most Floridians. Check out House Hunters on HGTV sometime. Most older houses with tiny yards go for $500K.

That's not the price of that house. It's the price of that piece of land.

And that has to be one of the smaller houses on the island. Coronado has many larger homes -- not necessary huge and lavish, but probably in the 2,000-2,500-square-foot range and beautifully landscaped.

The story I've heard on Coronado is that many naval officers passed through San Diego during World War II, liked the area, and wound up building homes on the island in the years after the war (no housing bubbles back then, obviously). It's a beautiful place (with one of the most gorgeous hotels I've ever seen) and well worth a visit if you're ever in San Diego -- even if it would take winning the Lotto to actually be able to afford to live there.
