I've noticed that unlike where I come from, pedestrians do NOT have the right of way here, is that correct? If so, is that true of the entire state or just South Florida. I've also noticed that if (out of habit) I stop for a pedestrian that looks like they are just about to walk out in front of me, drivers behind me generally are not happy with my decision.

So according to the law, if I happen to hit one (obviously not intentionally, nor under the influence) as long as I stop afterwards and call to report it to the authorities, I have not broken any law?

Pretty sure pedestrians have the right of way, but would you trust a driver to stop? Not me.

Well if there is no crosswalk, you aren't supposed to let them go. That's called jaywalking kids . I never have anyone getting on my case when I let a pedestrian go on a crosswalk. But I don't let jaywalkers go, so I'm not sure about that, but I would imagine the people behind me wouldn't be too happy about that if I did.

Are you serious? Thats crazy. That sounds worse than here, and the drivers are pretty bad here. Here I just hope that they brake enough behind me at the stop sign so they don't hit me. My biggest problem with Broward drivers is a genuine lack of driving skill. Like the people on 95 doing 45 in the left lane and 90 in the right lane. Driving on 95 in Broward seems as if it is full of drivers who take their car out once a week, don't really drive on the highway, and decided to try it this week.

"It is the motorist's responsibility to do everything possible to avoid colliding with any pedestrians. Bicyclists, skaters and skateboarders in a crosswalk or driveway are considered pedestrians. Turning motorists must yield to pedestrians at intersections with traffic signals. Motorists must yield to pedestrians crossing the street or driveway at any marked mid-block crossing, driveway or intersection without traffic signals." Florida Drivers Handbook 2007

yup, and another thing i cant stand is when i am turning left and i approach an intersection. i am yeilding to the cars coming towards me (like u are supposed to) and a car behind me honks at me as if to say, "go ahead, i'm in a hurry, turn already, even if cars are coming at you." i hate that and if someone honks at me, i get angry.
