Ever been in a Fresh Market? Now that's clean. Sometimes I find ORGANIC fruit and vegetables there that are similar to Publix prices! Milams does a good job too.

Born and raised here, I grew up with Publix, WD, A&P, Pantry Pride & Food Fair with only the first two to survive (okay, just really aged myself)

Through the years I've shopped less and less at Publix for many of the reasons already mentioned. Higher prices (unless maybe BOGO) with quite a few times having problems communicating with employees who speak no Enlgish (unfortunately, I've found this problem in other major stores in the area as well, not just Publix) One thing I find a LOT there is outdated foods, they don't seem to rotate stock well.

For a city as big as Miami is, we really have only the two major grocery store chains, with Sedanos moving in fast, tho major only here. You go up to say, a little town like Hendersonville, NC and they have:

Food Lion
Ingles
Harris Teeter
Bi Lo's

You could literally walk to 3 of the 4 of these they are so close together!

I shop at Publix ONLY when I have to, but the majority of my shopping is done up in Broward. They have some great fruit and vegetable markets up there and Publix can't come close to the price.

On a final note, I find Winn Dixie higher than Publix and I hate going there more than I do Publix! I find WD is dirtier too.

I'll be moving to SC soon (THANK GOODNESS!) and up there we have Publix, Blooms, Ingles, Bi Lo's & Food Lion - more choices where to shop, double coupons and no sales tax on foods!!!!!!

Just my 2 cents

Publix sucks. Very backward supermarket chain, overpriced and lacking variety of fresh produce. Publix = endless aisles of processed crap. I feel for people in the south who have so little choice and variety.

You don't seem to know the city that well. You can get decent rents in Flatbush, Bed Stuy and many other areas. I gave you just a few examples but its hard to have this discussion with you because you dont seem to know the area well enough for me to discuss it with you.

As for utilities and winter in NYC, ummm i suggest you do research on how utilities work in the city for many places. Some places have changed though (for the worse) but either way just do some research

No need to get dirty here. I will say this, if you want to make a comparison, and one that people should even mind, you must know what you're talking about.

I have lived in NYC, Florida, Atlanta, and know the difference. My parents own a Brownstone in Brooklyn Heights (blocks from the Promenade), and they rent out to two families. What they charge their renters is somewhere around what your cousin pays, and we're talking about a Brownstone that was renovated less than 6 years ago. So no one is refuting what you said, but again........

Brooklyn Heights is top notch, minutes away from Manhattan, and sought after. You can't use that as comparison to some average Miami apts. You'd be making a comparison of apples to oranges. So again, Wild has very valid points.

And to bring things back to topic, Publix is good in generic brands, but that's about it. Their prices are nothing to brag about. I have yet to see anyone beat Walmart for name brand food items. If someone does, please share it with us all.

Winn Dixie could stand to overhaul their chains, their generic brands, and designs. It's long overdue.
