Aloha,

I was just curious, if anybody would know how hard it is for a mainlander to get on with the Maui school district, as a Para Professional/Special Education? Your ideas and input are greatly appreciated.

Mahalo

You could start with the Job Opportunities DOE website. There is an FAQ that will get you started.

I have no idea about the current openings, but with the kids on Furlough Friday so many times per month and also short day Wednesdays, I suspect the budget is still pretty tight.

I think you will have an advantage compared to most teachers. The school's need right now is for special ed. If you go onto the DOE site under "jobs" they will even say that their current shortage is special ed. Kelly4sun, feel free to email me at Moderator cut: For security concerns, please do not post your e mail addy in the forum. Thanks. if you end up getting hired for next school year. My husband is listed as "active" in the school system, so now we are just waiting around for a phone call. Best of luck to you!

Thats what I thought. I figured Special Ed had a pretty big demand in Hawaii right now. However; I'm not moving to Maui anytime soon, so I will just stay in the Redmond School District here in Oregon. I was just kind of curious for future reference, what my chances would be if ever I decided to take the big leap to the islands . I love Maui, but think it's best left as a vacation spot for us at the moment.
