Yes, and you've got the company to back you up, and typically you're just renting for a week or two, not six months or a year.

Too often we hear, "I'm moving and can't take the dogs........." and off to the pound they go, to soon be euthanized.
.

O yes, they are the members of the family. We have got the black lab, when he was 8 weeks old. And after that we adapted the small dog. He had a bad time in a past. So, now we have a family of four!

I, at first, lived in a condo in Kihei. My landlord allowed my 2 dogs too. Send me a direct message for his contact info., if you're interested.

Thought you might want this info. in considering a budget for moving to Maui with dogs. New Hawaii Law goes into effect Nov. 2013.

.B.328
S.D.1
H.D.2
C.D.1
Act 206
6/26/13

RELATING TO ANIMALS Amends the Residential Landlord-Tenant Code to provide for security deposits that include an additional amount to pay for damages caused by any pet animal, other than an assistance animal, allowed to reside in the premises pursuant to the rental agreement. Effective for rental agreements entered into on or after November 1, 2013.

I suppose there's 2 ways to look at this...good news or bad news...

1) Perhaps more Landlords will consider allowing pets because there is increased protection for Landlord retaining money for damages
or:
2) Yet another way for Landlords to price gouge perspective Maui Tenants..

I am so glad about this new law. I am hoping there will be much more varieties of available rental houses for the tenants with dogs. I did book the fly today to Maui on 12/16/2013 to secure the place for us. All of us (my husband, 2 dogs and myself) will fly in the first week of Jan. 2014.

I would not expect a dramatic change. It should loosen things up a little, but all the concerns about fleas and smells and noise and damage and liability aren't going to disappear overnight.

But good luck with it.

Nothing is going to change with this law. Landlords would prefer extra rent if they are ok with pets and disputing a security deposit is a pain in the neck for a landlord.
