I've heard that Maui people are really prejudiced against trolls. I'm a troll (and a haole troll, at that), so would I experience lots of stink eye on Maui?
Hi man, it's wrong labelling a whole island as "Unfriendly" but I have noticed similar temperament from people in maui, they're normally very nice people. They get a bit rude tho, my friends from maui are like that. Not stereotyping, I always let them know when they start to get rude or sarcastic. I work as a customer care representative as well and you have to be extra careful when handling maui customers. they get irate hahaha
I feel sorry for you that you met the two grumpy persons on the island in the same day. Cut the rest some slack. There are naturally grumpy people everywhere and ror every grumpy person there is at least one that will give you their last penny and be happy about it. Most of us are in between and from my experience are on the happier side of the equassion.
I have found out the richest person (and happiest) is the one who everyone owes a favor to because they helped everyone along the way. When you have that ballance in your favor you don't have to ever ask, your friends see a need and fill it for you.
I know OP is long gone. Anyway, I think how people 'seem' here on Maui is greatly influenced by your own attitude but also by where you are coming from, literally, geographically.
I came here from the Deep South and at first there were a few times I wanted to yell 'well kiss my chitlins'!
Now after a couple of years here, I can see that some of those snarls are actually Smiles.
You get what you give. Friendly people are everywhere!
Well, every place that I've been to anyways.
