The company my DH is negotiating with is not willing to purchase our home as part of the relocation package. As such, we have pretty much decided that if we move forward we will rent a house for a year. The neighborhoods we'd been considering when we thought we might purchase were Newton (south of 90), Wellesley and Needham - although I was leaning toward Newton.

We'd like 5 bedrooms (or 4 with an au pair/in-law suite), a two car garage, a little backyard and a good school. What kind of $$ would that likely run? Do we need a realtor to help find us a home? We haven't been in the rental market in 10 years and even then it was just apartments.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

This message thread should really be in the general Massachusetts forum and not in the Boston sub-forum.

I think you definitely need a realtor or rental agent to help you find such a specialized home. I suspect the monthly rent for a house of that size would range from $3000 - $4500 depending on which community it is in and the specific amenities.

Thanks for the response. I must admit I'm not clear on why this is more appropriate for the Massachusetts forum when my question is specific to the Boston suburbs?
