Those are nice but not exactly McMansions. I don't disagree at all that things were cheaper in 2019 but you said a 700k McMansion.

matrix said his friend couldn't get a nice house in Duxbury for 700-800k in 2019.

matrix also said there's no way 385k was the going rate for that other house in 2019.

He is clearly wrong about both. For some reason it seems you don't want to admit that. And it feels like you're using the McMansion comment to create a distraction. Perhaps because your comment that "deluxbury" has always been expensive isn't really accurate?

Now you have to shift 2 towns south to Plymouth to find a McMansion in that rough price range. Here's one I just saw listed for $775k. Mind you, I don't follow Plymouth that closely so I don't exactly know if this is an optimistic price, lowball, or about right.

edit: thanks redplum33, apparently I pasted the URL twice. Fixed here as well.

Some of you just like to argue.

People have been calling it "Deluxebury" for over 40 years!

Duxbury has always been more expensive compared to the neighboring towns of Marshfield, Pembroke and Kingston. Sure, it is less expensive than Cohasset or Hingham, but it has always been a relatively upper middle class town. It has a nice beach, that is for sure.

I wasn't really paying attention to Matrix's statement, I was more focused on your statement of, in 2019 you could get a mcmansion in duxbury for 700k which is false info. I have no problem admitting anything, and I guess expensive is a relative term. Do you think 700k is cheap? I think there are plenty of people today who would not be able to buy a 700k home nevermind ing 2019 when things were cheaper.

I think we have a different take on what a mcmansion is as well. There's one you posted for 775k which is beautiful, but 2,736 sq ft isn't mcmansion and it was 775, not 700k.

You could get a very nice home for 700k in dux in 2019. Maybe Matrix's friend wanted more bang for their buck so they want to marshfield.

That's exactly what I said.

The list I posted was all of the 2019 sales I could find.

As for McMansions, the generally accepted definition is over 3000 sq ft. With that in mind, go back and look at the list. There's 3 between 679k and 740k.

I've looked at the list. you think these are mcmansions?

They're very nice, but this is my idea of mcmansion:

I agree with your idea of a McMansion, but over 3000 sq ft meets the technical definition of a McMansion.

McMansion to me always meant an overly large home on a postage stamp lot. 4000sf home on a 6000 sf lot.

Secondary to that is some of the asthetics. Non-functional brick, cookie-cutter, all featuring white trim and looking the same. Pretty much 95% of all new homes being built all look the same.
