Our family of 4 lives in Ashland, with two kids ages 2.5 and 5. My oldest starts kindergarten in fall 2020.

I'm considering language immersion programs, and wondering if we should move to Holliston to have a chance to enroll her in French immersion for fall. I see the deadlines are in March for registration, and there might be a lottery. I could technically make the cut if we sell now and gain residency in Holliston before registration. Sounds crazy, right?

-Is the waitlist long for French immersion, if there is one?

-Any thoughts or experience with the French immersion program?

This would be a pretty big move for my family, I'm a stay at home mom for now, we're on one income. So, we probably wouldn't get the dream house yet I am holding out for when I return to work. But, from everything I've read I'm feeling pretty strongly that language immersion has many benefits for our children.

Thank you so much for any advice!

Both of my kids are in the French program. We lucked out and neither of their years needed a lottery but every other year I’ve heard about has had a lottery (and a lottery is a given for the Montessori program). Some years the waitlist is small but I know the kids that are in second grade this year had a 15+ long waitlist. There’s no way of knowing if there will be a waitlist for any given year or how long it will be.

We’ve been happy with the program. It’s amazing how quickly kids catch onto a new language!

I’m not sure you’d be able to get everything together in time for registration. There’s no guarantee your child would even make it into the program if you did, so I wouldn’t plan on moving to town just because of the French program. Would you regret your move if your child didn’t get in?

Thank you so much for the info. Moving is too much, you are right! I am going to try to get in with school choice, fingers crossed. It's possible, I called for some info. There could be a lottery for school choice and the program so a few hurdles. I'll know by early June! I'll be patient and hope for best. Thanks again.

Good luck with school choice! I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who has been able to school choice French but fingers crossed for you!
