I am thinking of enrolling my 1rst grader in this school. He is trilingual in French/English/German. What do you think of this school? The teachers, the science programs, the art program...

And what do you think of Montgomery schools in general? (we are currently in Europe)

Thank you!

Are you aware that there is a lottery to get into the French Immersion program? There is no guarantee your child would get in, so you should have alternate plans. Here is the info on the lottery for Immersion schools: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/c...ms/admissions/

Have you seen the reviews on Greatschools?
Maryvale Elementary School - Rockville, Maryland - MD - School reviews

Montgomery County has great schools, in general, but your child may be getting a better education in Europe than he would in the USA.

Thank you for the information!! I will look into it all.

My husband's job is relocating to DC, so no choice on that.

The Maryvale School is located in an industrial area with some moderate-priced homes nearby. It is not a particularly desirable area to live in. (Check the streetviews around the school.) Presumably you would live somewhere else, and have to transport your child to school if he got in.

As an alternative, there are private schools (such as Lycee Rochambeau) where your son could continue his language education. Otherwise, there is the other French Immersion program at Sligo Creek Elementary (admission also by lottery), if you lived in the southern part of the County: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/s...reekes/french/

I don't know what your geographic range is, but another option is the Dora Kennedy (formerly called Goddard) French immersion school in Greenbelt. They normally rely on a lottery system for entry in kindergarten, but given your particular situation you child may be able to test in. I would contact the school directly and ask.

There are some nice places in and around Greenbelt that are nice communities: Old Greenbelt, Hyattsville, University Park etc.

that school in Greenbelt is also a state & national Blue Ribbon school who's test scores surpass both Moco county french immersion programs. The school is excellent in language immersion as well as science & tech.
