Please be aware that certain areas of the cape have what they call “the plume”. This is a hazard to your health and sandwich mass is probably the hardest hit. The plume is all the toxic waste from when the army base was dumping jet fuel. If you google it, you will find areas to avoid and all the info plume. It’s responsible for high rates of breast cancer and deaths from breast cancer. People often overlook this because of the beach life but there are other areas of cape that aren’t affected by the plume.

The southshore recommendation while maybe opening up more job opportunities for the poster would seem to be a horrible suggestion for the husband commute wise. Unless he is working off hours the commute from spring to fall over the canal would be brutal. S. Plymouth and a few surrounding communities (Marion, Rochester, etc) would be the furthest I personally would even consider and even at that be prepared for long rides.

I’d do North Falmouth. Better school system than Bourne. It’s way easier to drive in the summer if you’re Falmouth/Bourne where you don’t deal with Route 6. There are plenty of health care jobs in Falmouth.

For a job in Pocasset you are much better off staying on the Route 28 side of the Cape. The road between Sandwich and Bourne locks up with traffic every Summer weekend. It turns a 5 minute ride into a 25 minute one. I would look into places from the ideal (Pocasset, Monument Beach, North Falmouth) to the next best (The remainder of Falmouth and Mashpee) then the off Cape options (Mattapoisett, Marion, Rochester). Wareham is close and does have a nice YMCA but it is a more depressed, low income town.

It is true that Sandwich Road backs up in summer, but so does the Bourne Bridge and 28 at rush hour year round. If her husband served in the military, he can cut through the base. The other option is to take the back roads from Sandwich to 151 to get to Pocasset from the North side of the Cape. From some parts of Sandwich, it is quicker than Sandwich Road on a good day.
