i have lived in wilmington all my life since 1962.

pros: close to boston, has excellent train center.
friendly unassuming towns folks
fairly good, town community feel
inexpensive in comparison to other towns
the yuppies havent discovered it yet to the point where they are gentrifying the entire town(they have there little cul-de-sacs)
has that old neighborhood feel..neighborhoods pretty much look the same as when i was a kid. a little dog eared for the wear, but still attractive and appear lived in.
schools everywhere on every corner, currently used and former schools.
extremly low crime rate. police log consists of driving infractions mostly.
the big deal in town is the baldwin apple monument. our claim to fame.
small town feel.
a nice lake to swim in.
no homeless or slums here. that i know of.
lots of dunkin donuts and a new staples, just opened. a tj maxx and a market basket.
a great bank(danvers bank)
some history concerning the american revolution and historic houses.
the elementry schools are round.

cons: we are pretty much invisible to the mainstream. nothing happens here. we never make the news and no one talks about us in the paper. we have no forums on the internet that are worth looking at, the forums we have are poor and never updated. no body knows where we are. to most people, we are just a drive through to boston. sometimes thats good. sometimes its frustrating. kids get bored. no real center. some good stores but nothing fantastic.
we practically dont register on the map. no one knows we are here. if we dissapeared roanoke style. no one would know. or care.
we are not a hick town however. we have all our teeth and im assuming very few of us play the banjo very well. we avergae about 2 kids for each family and we are fairly well educated. practically all of us who dont care to work in retail or sub shops, leave town to go to work. there is one nursing home which is exxcellent. i was gone for 20 years and have come home to roost 10 years now. im happy here.

theres wilmington in a nutshell. hope this helps.

We looked at Wilmington, too, with the hope of rail commuting. If you're working in Back Bay, though, you'd be much better off looking south and west of the city, on commuter rail lines that stop at Back Bay--these being Providence/Stoughton, Franklin/Forge Park, Needham, and Framingham/Worcester. While it is certainly possible to connect via the green line from North Station, if you can avoid it you'll save a lot of time and frustration. Just something to consider...

Default Lots of New Development

Don't forget to mention that the Wilmington Plaza is getting a whole new look by knocking the current buildings down and build new mall behind it.

ALSO, some new much needed businesses in Wilmington Crossing - the NEW mall across the street with Staples, PEARLE VISION, Starbucks, D'Angelos, Danvers Bank, etc.
