Hello!

I'm traveling with a co-worker to Massachusetts next week. We're flying from Los Angeles to Boston on a Monday, training in Westboro on Tuesday, Northhampton on Wednesday, Back to Westboro on Thursday, and then flying from Boston back to LA early Friday morning.

Basically we have a couple hours in Boston on a Monday afternoon and Thursday evening. And a couple weekday evenings in either Westborough or Northhampton.

We'd love to have a Massachusetts experience (neither of us have been), nothing too touristy. We're artsy, weirdo, nerdy types. Can anyone recommend must see/eat/do things? The cheaper the better!

Thanks in advance!

There are some great museums to check out in Boston: the ICE, Museum of Fine Arts, Isabella Gardner Museum. In Westboro, will have to think about that one. It's a quiet suburb, not a ton of nightlife. For food in Westboro, I kind of like the cheaper places to eat there - Harry's on Rt 9 is a truck stop that looks a little iffy but it's been there forever & has yummy fried food. JPs in Westboro is a little depressing looking but also surprisingly good food.

Vincent's, Worcester. Best meatball sandwich ever. Quintessential Massachusetts dive bar and defacto headquarters of your people in Central Mass. Westborough is pretty much a suburb of Worcester.

Worcester on a whole is pretty Massachusetts and definitely not your Boston type Massachusetts experience but how the rest of us live. It's also one of the more wierdo, artsy, nerdy cities in Massachusetts being that no one relocates here like they do in Boston and Northampton. Our weirdos are our wierdos. We all grew up in the area.

Hope you have fun while you're here.

I'm not sure that Northampton is the typical Mass. experience. It's been called 25 square miles surrounded by reality. For it's size as a small city, it has a lot to offer but is no comparison to what you can do/see in Bostson/Cambridge.

Northamapton thoughts: Downtown shops/galleries (Thornes Market, Faces), lots of unique restaurants (a lot cheaper than Boston eats) Smith College Conservatory (Greenhouse Gardens), stroll over the CT river on the rail trail bridge, (Of course, it has been frigidly cold so you'll want to focus on indoor activities), Smith Museum of Art. Yankee candle Company is about 15 minutes north, quite touristy but also an experience.

If you are staying overnight, I'd recommed staying dowtown (Hotel Northampton), maybe take in a show at the Iron Horse Music Hall. There are too many good resturants, but I'll suggest East Side Grill or Spoleto's ($$$), Fitzwilly's or Viva Fresh Pasta ($$), Haymarket Cafe (downstais/vegetarian), LaVeracruzana, Bueno or Amanouz ($)

Post back next week and let us know what you thought of 'Paradise City'
