So I've lived most of my life in Anne Arundel and I feel I know it fairly well, particularly the Northeastern part where I grew up. I know virtually every road between Balt. & Annapolis and the towns in-between, but I know hardly anything at all about Odenton and a lot of that Western side. It's just kinda out of the way, not along 50 or 100, not along 695 or 95, so I don't really even take random side routes through there on the way home from work or anything.

Looking at a couple houses there and some of them seem decent for the price. Don't get me wrong, I've been to Odenton and the area around Ft. Meade, Severn, South Gate, etc. but I don't really frequent those areas. I've spent more time in Wyoming and in Asia than I've spent in the western part of Anne Arundel.

But yeah...long life story short, does anyone know what the neighborhoods are like around the area?

Looking more specifically for info in the area boxed in by Annapolis Rd. (175), Piney Orchard, Dairy Farm and Waugh Chapel, and I suppose within 3-5 miles outside that box. What are the neighborhoods like and the general quality of life in/near the town?

Well, Odenton is a very confusing town to me. There's the actual place, then there is that tiny portion that is in front of Fort Meade which has an Odenton mailing address (Seven Oaks). Its kind of like how Cape St. Claire and Parole has an Annapolis mailing address, but its not really "Annapolis." I think Odenton is one of the more suburban Annapolis suburbs. Its mostly houses with a few shopping centers and an ice rink. The schools however are really good. I'd say its a lot like Crofton. It seems more of a family oriented area especially Piney Orchard. In Piney Orchard, you'll always see people taking their kids on a walk, people running, etc. But from what I remember, Piney Orchard is a bit pricey. Waugh Chapel is another nice area in Odenton (a portion is also in Gambrills).

Some areas within a 3-5 mile distance outside of that box you mentioned would be Gambrills, Crofton, Severn, and Millersville/Crownsville. Crownsville seems nice, I haven't been there, but I have heard nice things about it. Crofton and Gambrills are practically twins of Odenton. They're super suburban family areas. I lived in Severn the first time I lived in Maryland. Severn is also very suburban and kind of like a mix of Fort Meade, Odenton, and Glen Burnie.

To clear the air recommend a review of the Odenton Town Center Master Plan at:

Odenton Town Center

To further clear the air both Piney Orchard and Waugh Chapel are NOT in the Odenton TC!

We just sold our house in Odenton after living there since 1990. Raised my kids there (not including 8 years in Hawaii). It was a good place to live. I worked close and do not like long commutes so it was perfect. The town is growing leaps and bounds. The house prices are a little higher than average but they are coming down. Retired to Texas (no state income tax).

Thank you for your input, outlook.
As a long-time local what is your opinion on some of the neighborhoods in the area?
Streets? Things to gravitate toward? Things to watch out for?

I happened to drive by Ft. Meade toward the end of last week and was not imperssed by the imediate area around base, but then again I lived in Ft. Bragg/Fayetteville, NC for a few years and it has a similar dynamic only larger right outside the gates.
