That accent prevented me from ever watching that show... it was just too painful! Gives "cringe" a lot more meaning...

Jolly, I could write chapter and verse on how over the top that show was and never stray from the subject of the accent. Ther needs to be a way to measure how much the potential of the mind is stunted by television and Hollywoods idea of the world. Sacriledge from a man whose father made his living selling and servicing TVs (among other businesses).

i was just reminded to ask about financial stuff - good thing I did't wait until the last minute ...

i know heating is a big deal; what is best (other than wood) oil???, propane?, natural gas, electric ... what is available?

how much land before you can have your own well?

how much does a single person (and a dog or 2) need to survive or live comfortably?

gas is $2.50 / gal ... what is it there; is canada gas cheaper?

I would imagine that seafood is a better bargin than beef ... what about chicken? pork?

FROM Eastport ... what is the drive to: large grocery store or a convience store; doctors; VA in Calias ... is there a gathering place where people go to drink coffee and chit-chat?

I'm so excited I could just ...

THANKS!!! for your time

Most homes in Eastport are heated with oil. You have city water and sewer, so you don't need a well. Gas is cheaper off-island (usually). Johnson's Mobil in Pembroke is usually cheapest. The IGA in Eastport is surprisingly well stocked for such a small town, but other stores are available in Calais, including a small WalMart, a Marden's and EBS. Calais is ~20 miles away; figure on a 40-45 minute drive. Bigger stores are in Bangor, 125-130 miles away. Eastport has more restaurants than a city its size should have. You have your choice of several places for coffee (or whatever). There are groups of "regulars" at several of them. Two banks have branches in Eastport.

Practice your HO-HO-HO and plan for a trip to Sunday River in early December for the Santa Ski.

Canada has much more expensive gasoline. Gas,this weekend was $2.69 in Pembroke.

Seafood is good, but the beef/pork/chicken, will be cheaper per pound. Less waste in seafood though.
