Our goats are funny to watch on this ice.
Normally they are very sure-footed, but they can't get a grip on the ice either.
Our goats keep trying to walk but they keep doing splits.
When I kept sheep, I would toss handfuls of shavings (not sawdust) onto the ice around the barn for traction. If you do it while the ice is just slightly wet, the shavings stick to the ice perfectly. I didn't keep the sheep for meat so it was kind of important to avoid broken legs
That is problem all over the Northern tier this winter. Even here there are towns that are scrambling to get salt.
I can understand it in Maine, since you guys have really gotten hammered this Winter. Here in this part of WI, we are having a slightly worse-than-usual winter season, but nothing compared to Maine. We have less than 2 feet of snow. Southern WI keeps getting buried, but not up here.
Yesterdays storm dropped 10" here and then about 1 inch of rain. This winter is starting like '68,'69. We had an early abundance of snow. Last year, our first big dump was on Valentines Day. We have received about 120". Wish those Bethel people would come pick up the banks and incorporate them into the "Largest Snow Woman."
As of today we've had 86" of snow here this winter.
86 inches--I'm just amazed!
