The kid's got talent! You have Autry running scared (in the hereafter)! I am used to reading very painful poems/diddies on CD, but this one was very well done. Then again, I haven't heard the singing and guitar work.....

Smelts generally move up under the ice to spawn before the ice is out. That's why they drop the limit from whatever you can catch to two quarts in March to give them a chance to reproduce. They are in virtually every river ,stream and brook now.

Reading this reminded me of my Father. He told of snagging smelts as a child with safety pins on a line - the line could have been anything. But this would have been on the Cape - MA. Then I got to wondering if it was smelts, or some other species. Which led me to find this great article on smelts:
