If this storm hits as forecast it won't just be some branches down on the wires. There will be rows of poles down.

Tonight is the longest night in the northern hemisphere. Tomorrow the days begin to get longer. In Scandinavia this is called Yule night. People brought in bigger logs to last longer and keep the house warm all night. The biggest log was called the Yule log. When the fire went out, part of that log remained. It would be saved for the next year to start the fire at Yule. in the beginning, Yule had nothing to do with Christmas, but due to the proximity of the two dates they became associated with Yuletide greetings.

Merry Christmas Maine page people whether you are here in Maine or just wish you were.

The Mattawamkeag is at double its normal flow going ino this deluge. With the snow melt we will see flooding and washouts. To get "over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house" may require alternate routes in some areas. Be careful out there.

How did everybody make out today? About five/six inches of snow here, and it's just about done.

We got 4 inches of snow [0.61 inches of precipitation], by 9am it had faded to a light drizzle, by 11am that stopped.

Our snow was powder dry. We had no rain here on the Trans Maine Trail.

It will be chilly in coming days. The combination of 25 below zero and 35 MPH gusts is just plain brutal. The north wind is cold no matter what direction it comes from.

Heads up folks. THIS CAN KILL YOU!

Wind Chill Warning

...Wind chill warning remains in effect from 7 PM Monday to 10 am EST Tuesday... ...Winter Weather Advisory will expire at 7 PM EST this evening...
