The month from late March to late April is so funny! It can be in the 80s or it can be like winter (like today)

lol. I would choose another adjective to describe March/April weather.

Everything from sunshine to snow; wind & rain; fog & calm today. Loved it most when the mud congealed into a solid state later this afternoon.

Howling winds from rain to snow- kept snowing and blowing today. I think it stopped now but still left us with about 2" of snow.
Well- at least the winds have died down a bit now

Caribou hasn't seen bare ground since November 26th? Holy Smokes!

This is how much snow is on the ground this morning there.

Holy Smokes!
Here its still about a one foot snow pack though piles and drifts are still present. At the shopping center, the snow plow pack is slowly melting- down to about 8 feet now.

Maine is breaking all records this morning. Unbelievable. Quotes from NWS Caribou Maine

"Apr state record for COOPs & NWS sites is -17°F at Ripogenus. We have 2 sites at -19°F this morn, but they are unofficial."

"Wow! Big Black River, Maine is -20F!"

"Good morning from WFO Caribou, Maine where it is an all-time April record setting 4 below at sunrise."

"Low temps across northern and eastern Maine so far this morning."

"5 am EDT temps across northern and eastern Maine"

"Map of snow totals from Saturday's storm. More maps at" Monthly and Seasonal Snow Maps

"Amazing, -4F at Caribou, Maine breaks the all-time record for April of -2F, set on April 2, 1964."

"UPDATE: -4F, a new All-time April monthly temperature record set at Caribou, Maine. Also, the latest it has ever been below zero! "

Saw on the local news this morning out of Bangor that Aroostook county is breaking low temp records this morning. Meanwhile our forecast is for periods of light snow this week and finally 51 degrees Saturday. The weatherman keeps saying "below average" and "colder than normal" when referring to temps. We should be in the mid 40s. This is going to end up being a record winter.

4 below at my house down by the brook. Dead calm and the lakes are making ice! I refer to my property as the "fros.t pocket". When the wind is calm it is usually 5 degrees colder at my house than it is up on the flat. Airports are often the official site for temperatures and visibility, but it is usually colder down by the brook.

I want to see what the trend is over the next several years. I have to be here anyway (in central Maine) because wife is finishing her degree at local college. If it is trending towards colder, more protracted winters then we are out of New England when she finishes. We are both native northern New Englanders but I have NOT seen cold like this in quite some time. Meanwhile the furnace kicks on to warm up the house, it is 20 something degrees out.....
