Twice a day, every day, NWS officies launch weather balloons up to not only retrieve current data from all levels of the atmosphere but also to put that data into models so they produce better results.

They do it 12z(7am) and 00z(7pm) each day.

Check out where this mornings few to

Polaris or the North Star has not moved since the Phoenecians sailed the seas, but check your compass. Since 1832 when our town was layed out on the face of the earth, magnetic north has moved 13 degrees to the west. For that reason, new deeds will read "north, 13 degrees east". When I explain that, some people doubt my explanation. I just tell those people that magnetic north is in far western Canadian Arctic and the Canadians moved it.

They accept that explntion without question. Meet the need.

Negative 12 this morning in Whitman's Mill, Maine. Sea Smoke abounds, the trees on both sides of the Saint Croix are encrusted with what I call Hoar Frost, not sure the proper venacular. It is what my Grandpa would call
, "Colder than a well diggers arse" for sure.

Was supposed to get down to +15F in Bar Harbor last night. Woke up to -2 this morning. Last week we were to get 1-3 inches of snow, I got 5 inches of 1-3. Doesn't look like a good prediction year for the weather guys for my neck of the woods.
