Out here in sunny AZ, I rarely use my dryer! I have hung the clothes lines just below the wall line so technically we are not violating HOA rules. At any rate, the backyard backs to a foothill, so only the wildlife could complain

When we lived in Maine, I used a clothes line in the summer and my girls would love to run through the hanging sheets and towels, playing hide and seek! I also strung a line in the ( unheated) cellar for winter to help cut down n electricity costs. I guess we have always been use to the rough texture of line dried towels- though I understand it doesn't suit everyone.
Perhaps not, but it DOES suit me! That rougher texture is associated with CLEAN in my mind, likely 'cause my mom line dried most of my life. and I love the way the rough towels seem to soak up the water when I dry after a bath, and invigorate my skin... especially at the gym, after I have done a good workout, and been in the sauna and possibly the jacuzzi as well... then a nice shower and one of my rough towels is wonderful! I will never, EVER live where there is HOA. The rules one gets with zoning are more than enough in my book.

YES! Plus I have a hard time paying my neighbors to tell me what I can do with the land I bought and paid for.

Ok, so I'm not in Maine (yet), but I am frugal! After using the oven, I open the door for the "free heat" for the kitchen.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I move every 9-12 months. In every yard it seems I find at least one little tree growing as a weed - maple, hemlock, cedar, etc. I always dig these up and transplant them to a friend's yard or plant them in pots for a year or two until they are sizable enough to be replanted in a new yard (large enough that the tree won't be mowed down or pulled up by the person who buys my house). It's like getting a free tree, plus the "weed" tree gets saved. Also, I often buy plants in the fall or winter, when they are on sale or outgrowing their container size - more plant for the money. I suppose this will probably only work in Maine if I have a greenhouse to keep them in until the spring thaw.

I use the hot oven after baking, to heat the kitchen by opening the door too...but I wonder about taking the extra step of unscrewing the oven light bulb....naw it is just a little one....and its hot!
