Default What's a prepper?

Plenty of space for planting, a bizillion gallons of fresh water full of fish across the road, enough moose walking around the surrounding woods to feed several townships, plenty of firewood and ammo. No prepping here. Just the way life should be. I love Maine. Hi gang!

"Would you really want to survive a catastrophic event that would guarantee the eventual demise of the human race?"

Judging on its handle I expect that the basis for this decision comes from leaders who wish just such a fate for us all.

“The collective needs of non-human species must take precedence over the needs and desires of humans."
Dr. Reed F. Noss, The Wildlands Project

“Cannibalism is a radical but realistic solution to the problem of overpopulation."
Lyall Watson, The Financial Times, 15 July 1995

"If I were reincarnated, I would wish to be returned to Earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels."
Prince Phillip, World Wildlife Fund

"Human beings, as a species, have no more value than slugs."
John Davis, editor of Earth First! Journal

Mainers have an entirely different outlook on life. We value freedom and self determination. Does anybody happen to know the date when the Pilgrims stepped ashore on Plymouth Rock? It was December 21, 1620. It was the first day of winter. They unloaded their goods on the beach and the Mayflower went out to sea. They made it. Some died of exposure and starvation, but in the spring they planted crops and the Indians showed them how to plant corn with fish as fertilizer.

If we are faced with some inconvenient situation just think back to what our forefathers faced. We'll make it. We may lose some neighbors and family members, but never doubt that those who plan ahead will prevail in the face of adversity.

Yes, I am a prepper. I have been prepping for about 5 years for peak oil and its ramifications. They are far more likely to happen than some catastrophic event. The upside is that the preps have paid off already. I do something every day. It's like a second job. Fortunately it is beginning to pay off.

Interesting, and yes they had a tenacious nature but also lived a survivable existence. What if the planet was dieing and the inevitable end was at hand? I would rather go quickly than starve to death slowly. I have friends that are convinced that next Dec. 21st. is the end and they are taking off work that day. I'll be working that day because I don't personally believe that any one knows when this planet will end and if they're right then what ever will be will be.

Go and rent "The Book of Eli". I will not starve to death slowly. This old rock isn't going anywhere for a really long time.

I think you are probably right about that. I can't believe how many people are afraid of 12/21. I think you must be a lot younger than I am. Age changes your perspective about life and death. I like watching Prepper's and I wonder why they are so afraid. Death is as natural as being born, and having come close to drowning in Austrailia with seconds to spare I can tell you I wasn't afraid. My last thought was for my husband and how I felt sorry for him having to face that on vacation. It was a painful and peaceful experience at the same time. Now when this crazy teenager had his hands around my throat in my car, that was totally different terrifying experience. I better stop there as corner guy hasn't yelled at me for a while and I feel his presence. Or did I forget my meds this morning?

Maybe you did. CG hasn't been here for quite a while.

Maybe so, but I was born before WWII and my hair is snow white. How about yourself?
