I have been fairly lucky. I've been driving for almost 18 years and I had a coyote or something back in the late 90's (too freaked out to look but hubby did, said it had blue eyes, it wasn't a dog) run into my drivers side door, then noting till my new vehicle last year so now I've also hit a bird, had a duck fly into my passenger side mirror and a dog that ran out in front of me.

Where I live we have lots of animals that mostly come out at night so I always drive slowly when I get close to the house. I am an animal lover and couldn't bear the thought of hitting anything and watching it suffer. My youngest daughter is just like me and when she was a young girl she would always bring home the road kill so I could give it a proper burial. My back yard was full of animals. I had to stop that practice because of the possible disease and I got tired of seeing the poor things and having to bury them. Last time up in Maine I had a family of turkeys on the road in front of me and they were trotting along in front of the car turning and yelling at me. Vicious little things they were. I also have them where I live in Massachusetts and right about now they are getting pretty big. Last thanksgiving one turkey was high-tailing it up the road at a pretty fast pace and had escaped from a farm. Must have known what was going on in preparation of the holiday. But he was hell bent on getting out of the area.

A car in front of me hit a log that bounced up and shattered my windshield.

I hit a squirrel that shattered my nerves.

Then I hit my brakes once.

I've been lucky the last few years or winters that I spent in Maine. I haven't hit an animal with my car, bike or sled but certainly came close a few times. I've had to stop for moose and deer plus a slow shopping cart once.
