Some years I buy the candy and give it out to trick or treaters but this year we decided to go out for dinner instead. A neighbor up the street had 420 kids come to her door. She had gone to WalMart and bought 400 regular size Hersey Bars at the cost to her of over $200. Her husband is a Dr. so I suppose they could afford it. I will usually give out a smaller size and just shut the lights out when the $25 or $30 worth is gone. The houses here are close together and people from the country bring in kids by the van load. After dinner we drove back into the neighborhood and there were still so many cars along the street we went up to the park and found a spot to sit and watch for a while. It's always fun to see the kids dressed up. I think kids should just trick or treat in their own neighborhoods.

It was very quite here. We saw no trick/treaters.

A neighbor came by mid afternoon though and I gave her a dozen eggs. Does that count?

We didn't have as many as we have in the past, but we got all of our regulars~ friends stopping by with their kids and kids' friends and such. But geez, nobody stayed out long! It was *cold*.... Katy had gone out early in the evening and built a snowman on the front lawn! First time ever for snow on Halloween for them! Hmmm.... might have to post a picture of that!

This does make me think..........we live in a neighborhood now, so our kids go trick or treating in our 'hood. We buy candy for others and my kids get candy so we're even. But if you "borrow" a neighborhood then it's not really fair is it? There's no way to give back, though if it's just a few kids, no one will notice. 420 kids is a lot!!!!!

Maybe those kids just need to go to a Halloween/Fall Festival/All Saints party and let their parents dish out some candy or money.

Are there town centers or mall/retail areas that do trick or treating with the kids, that would be another alternative.........

Kids came in droves for 3 solid hours. I took the kids around and gave our candy to the neighbors who were sitting on their steps, and the candy did not last very long at all. There were so many kids at times it was difficult to walk. Parents dressed up, a neighbor made an awesome haunted house in their carriage house, there was a parade, and it was just a really fun night.

Newdawn -- when we lived in Bangor everyone went to Cedar Street (I think that was it) -- that was the "scene".

We had a few groups come by early on, but not nearly as many as last year.

I was in Saco on Saturday and saw some kids walking around in costumes trick-or-treating at 4:30 PM. Any idea of what may have been going on?

Lawmom - not sure how they did down on Cedar Street - we live over by Fairmount Park, it's a favorite spot for those that bring their kids in from Levant and Glenburn etc.

The Bangor Mall used to give out candy to kids under 12 that are in costume, for a few years but I don't think they do that anymore.
