I found the "20 Questions" article in the weekend BDN informative. Despite several areas where I might be in disagreement with LePage he is still the least objectionable candidate in my book...Mitchell is dead last- she

1) wouldn't rule out increasing sales or income taxes
-----(Sure, tax us some more we aren't *all* broke and on welfare...yet)

2) doesn't support a cap on years of rec'ving welfare
-----(Sure, let everyone have a free ride for as long as they want, with no incentive to get back on their feet and pull their own weight...and what happens when there are more people riding the wagon than pulling it, and the people pulling decide that *they* want to ride too?

3) doesn't think teacher pay should be tied to student achievement
-----(Who cares if the kids don't actually learn anything, keep paying the teachers anyway...I'm sure I could keep on getting paid the same amount if I just showed up to work and looked pretty, without caring if the mail got out the door and to the right places...right? Yeah. Right.)

4) not in favor of nuke power to reduce energy cost

5) doesn't think that enviro regs hinder business development
-----(Like increasing the costs of compliance don't raise the barrier to entry?)

6) supports increasing min wage
-----(Hits smaller business harder, and small businesses are [collectively] the biggest employers- makes it more difficult to be profitable and remain in business. Sure, and let's raise sales and income taxes to make it even harder, maybe they'll just keep on plugging along and not think about giving up and jumping on the welfare wagon too.)

7) supports Dirigo Health care and doesn't think we should be able to purchase insurance from out of state companies!
-----(Sure, deny us the right to purchase insurance at competitive rates. Who cares if it takes more tax dollars to support Dirigo and MaineCare? Those dummies pulling the wagon have plenty of money left, we can still get more out of them.)

8) supports additional bonds (money out of our pockets) for 'land conservation'
-----(There you go, raise our taxes even more...and take more land away, those business who complain about the costs of complying with the environmental regulations will just have to shut up if there isn't any land for them to build businesses on. All of the tourists that will flock to our nature conservancies will keep us going, it's not like the rest of the country is suffering from a recession and high fuel/transportation costs.)

If this were the 1950s, I think she'd be looking at a McCarthy hearing.

At 1 PM the ballot box was FULL and they had to jam ballots in. That is unprecedented in our little town. A big turnout is good news here.

Yes, the electronic ballot machine got full and was jammed here; we had to turn our ballots in for them to store manually.

Same here in Brunswick. I have NEVER seen the voting area this crowded. First time I've ever had to wait in line to vote.

I just voted in CA on three pages of people running for something, measures and appointments. I need a cigarette. And I don't smoke. Now it's wait and see.

I'll be very curious about Maine's elections tonight too. And the voter turnout. I just heard on tv out here that CA is expecting a poor turnout as the issues just don't resonate as much out here.

Good luck to you all and may all your voting wishes come true. I can live with whatever you decide. As long as you decide what it is I can live with.
