I grew up in a small town (city by maine standards) outside of Boston and we never locked our doors. Family and friends that are still there still don't feel the need to lock doors.

And when I lived in DC I saw too many car windows broken. My plan was to make sure there was nothing of value in the car (coat, wallet, ect) and then leave the car unlocked. That way even if they wanted the radio they could at least not break my window.

Its not northern Mass til you get south of Portland.

I have been told repeatedly that the line runs East - West and is somewhere between Augusta and Bangor.

A straphanger is a commuter.
One who hangs onto the strap on a bus or subway.

Molly,
Shame on you. Not knowing what a straphanger is. LOLOL Could always tell it was summer when all the straphangers arrived in town from out of state. (Or maybe this word is just common to Hancock County?)
My mom has always called them "summer complaints". LOL
