The only thing I need New Orleans for is a good airport.

Ok ok...I'll say it! Louisiana Legend...SHUT UP!! Your HORRIBLE lack of education and ghetto-style speech does NOT make you a good advocate for Shreveport! As for the cities of Shreveport and Baton Rouge...I love both!! I was born and raised in Shreveport, but I enjoy Baton Rouge a lot! BOTH cities have a lot to offer! Whether it's New Orleans, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Monroe, Lafayette, Alexandria...we all live under the same state flag! Louisiana is a wonderful, diverse state and I enjoy ALL parts of it! Instead of this ridiculous bickering, let's appreciate and enjoy our differences...it makes us special! Vive la Louisiane...ALL OF IT!

man i'm so sick of hearing that crap. so many people don't really add in the fact that bossier has a metro area of its own, and all of this little towns and **** are starting to grow together, and honestly, man, shreveport is way bigger than baton rouge is in terms of how spread out it is from one city limit of a city, we're still not getting our numbers, you think they count towns like ringgold and elm grove in shreveports metro area? bossier city has it's own damn metro area dude theres at least 80 thousand strong in the bossier city metro area as far as the towns that are big and close to shreveport in our parish, soon it will all be bossier city metro, bossier city is growing like its on steroids, so stop trying to jip us, theres 80 thousand people on the east side of the river, and shreveport 198 thousand strong for 20 years now at least. shreveport is a big city man, its going to be like dallas in a decade or two, and baton rouge only had that percentage population gain cause you guys got the fall out from katrina... lol just because we're from louisiana doesnt mean we're dumb, shreveport will be a metropolitan like dallas, baton rouge will still be baton rouge.

HAHAHAHAHA

I think not. No city in Louisiana will ever be as big as Dallas.

East Baton Rouge Parish alone has a population of almost 430,000. That is almost 40,000 more than the estimated 391,000 in the entire Shreveport-Bossier Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area has 786,000 residents.

Now, we do have more parishes in our MSA than Shreveport-Bossier, but even if you took out all the parishes except for East Baton Rouge, Livingston, and Ascension (the most urban), the Baton Rouge MSA would still have about 650,000 residents.

The populations in Livingston and Ascension Parishes grew at rates greater than 30% from 2000-2008, while East Baton Rouge maintained a 3% population growth, which indicates that flight from the city of Baton Rouge is not an issue anymore.

And for the poster who said that the city of Shreveport is better because it has more land area...that's like saying that Juneau, Alaska is better than Atlanta or Dallas (or Shreveport or Baton Rouge, for that matter). Because statistically, Juneau has more land area than any other city in the US.

And if you people knew anything about New Orleans area population post-Katrina, you would know that all but 100,000 of the 1.3million people in that metropolitan area have returned. And not all of those people are in Baton Rouge. They are spread all over the place.

Louisiana currently has three fortune 500 companies. One is in New Orleans, one is in Baton Rouge, and the other in Monroe.

Louisiana currently has three fortune 1000 companies. Two in the New Orleans area, and one in Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge is the hub of state government. It is a regional hub of industry and manufacturing and has access to a deepwater port, while providing companies with a secure, inland location. It is also a hub of higher education. Baton Rouge, like Shreveport, has become a popular spot for the film industry.

I'm not here to try to say that Shreveport sucks, because it doesn't. But you give Baton Rouge far too little credit.

I just watched the movie "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" with Michael Douglas. When I rented the movie, I had no idea it was filmed in Shreveport, but when I got my first glimpse of the local scenery, it all seemed very familiar. Then the courthouse sign gave it away.

First, I'm no movie critic, but the wife and I really enjoyed this film and wholeheartedly recommend it if you're into legal dramas with plot-twists, etc. But secondly, I was gratified to see that not only was it filmed in Shreveport, but that the story actually takes place in Shreveport, LA!

I thought the movie did a good job of portraying Shreveport in a good light and showcased the many positives with some good CBD shots, as well as the casinos in Bossier and other areas. Great city-scapes!

Makes me want to head up I-49 for a long-overdue visit!

That would certainly be a tall order. Southbossiermtd may want to aim a little more realistically, such as an aspiration for the SBC Metro to attain the level of Baton Rouge first.

As I mentioned in the "Baseball and Louisiana" thread, the Houston metro area population is on par with Louisiana's total population. The DFW metro area exceeds that.

Do the math....
