I am from Southern California and may be moving to LA and I'm looking at lafayette. My husband will be in Lake Charles but do to the lack of Hospitals needing Labtechs and a night life I am looking at staying the lafayette area instead. Main questions:
Are there more then a few hospitals in the area?
Community colleges?
Apartment rental prices in the nicer areas? {I read someone mentioned the SW area of the city}
NIghtlife, maily dance clubs?
Those would be my main questions. If anyone would like to add their two cents that would be great. I'll take what I can get.

Lafayette LA is an amazing place. It is large enough to have everything you could possibly need right at your fingertips, yet it still maintains a small town feel.

Lots of hospitals. Our Lady of Lourdes is in fact building a second facility off of Ambassador Caffery Pkwy.

If you want first class aptmnt rentals check out River Ranch, it is an amazing place.

Lots of clubbing in Lafayette. South La is in fact the place to party in LA. The downtown area of Lafayette is hopping on the weekends. Grant Street DanceHall has life music most weekends.

Thank You. Another question that has been plaguing my b/f and I. What does it smell like in general, or when it gets hot. MY b/f's mom lives in monroe(a ways away) and she says that the lower end of the state stinks when it gets hot because the methaine that has soaked into the soil gets warm , expands and raises. She also says that it just smells in general and that would be a pretty big deal breaker for us. I would like to hear it first hand from someone who actually lives in the area.

that smell thing is crazy...especially coming from someone who lives in an area close to a paper mill!

there aren't LOTS of hospitals when comparing to a large metropolitan area but there are several hospitals. River Ranch is nice and they are building more apts also. There are some nice apts. past the mall....I can't remember the name...Lion something? you'll see them on the right as you drive down Johnson towards Maurice.
