Over 27,000 new cases today. Clearly people aren't listening to advice about gathering size. LA needs to add its own restrictions (e.g., close down bars), if only to avoid delaying public school by weeks due to infection absences and fearful parents. For what it's worth, New York City had over 43,000 cases yesterday and is refusing to make changes.

More than 70% of coronavirus cases in Los Angeles County from Dec. 22 to Dec. 28 were among adults younger than 50.

Rates among the youngest adults — those 18 to 29 — are more than eight times higher than they were one month ago. And among adults in their 30s and 40s, cases are six times as high.

“Many of the people in this age group are important members of our labor force,” Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said this week.

The young feeling bulletproof and not caring about others (often being childless and unmarried, later in LA than in most places). Also, the same old messaging issue where 40-something males don't realize their non-Omicron risk isn't low.

People have basically stopped caring and there's not much Cal/NY can do which has already been done.

It is what it is. If you're worried wear a mask. I'll wear a mask on a plane but passengers can remove them when they eat/drink. What's the point if the passenger next to you spends half the flight nibbling on snacks and sipping their soda. It's a joke.

I'm 64 and in good health. I've got my Corvid shot and that's about all I can do. And because nobody can be sure of the rules regarding masks/proof of vaccination will be this summer our family reunion in N. Cal. has been cancelled. A lot of people just don't want to deal with the mandated bull****.

So the reunion will be held in AZ or TX.

Absolutely no mention of the severity of the cases, specifically the severity for those taking advantage of the abundantly available tools to combat the virus. Of course, that’s no mistake: it’s all part of the plan to continue trying to scare the living hell out of as many people as possible.

Give us all a break. The virus is no real threat to vaccinated people. Testing “positive” is meaningless.

Not vaccinated since summer probably means not much protection (except getting very sick, maybe). Plus, I estimate almost 1 million men in LA have never gotten one of the vaccines. Public health officials should be trying to reach the not-young subset of them.

I agree with you that airline rules on domestic flights here are a joke.

Memory B and T cells will be long lasting, and will protect against getting very sick. And, once we've avoided getting "very sick", what's left? A little bit sick? Who the hell are you or anyone else to try to continue dominating citizens and trampling civil rights so as to try to avoid getting a little bit sick? Since when is "never getting a little bit sick" some sort of entitled right that is worth trampling the rights of others to pursue?

Many of the law abiding class religiously adhered to the Covid restrictions for over a year and sacrificed a lot upon being told that everything would return to normal once the vaccines were widely available and that we'd reach herd immunity upon the majority being vaccinated. The Delta and now Omicron surges in 2021 after the vaccine (I'm vaccinated BTW) are resulting in much higher case rates than than at the corresponding time in 2020. No wonder the advice fell upon deaf ears to most.
