The only thing is, DC has a great job market, while CA has a crappy job market, unless you work in the tech or entertainment field.

Also, the home prices and taxes are through the roof.

How did you manage to secure a good job, before relocating?
My job came with me.

In DC the home prices in good areas are super high. DC is gentrifying so fast. A townhouse in a halfway decent but in the process of gentrifying areas will cost you at least $500,000 and up. The government just built a new Homeland Security building in one of the worst neighborhoods on one of the worst streets (in terms of reputation) there is. The public schools in DC aren't that great either. The traffic sucks there as well. So I'm basically getting what I already had in a different area which is what I was looking for...a change of environment.

Thanks! I'm already enjoying myself. Just last night while I was out I unexpectedly was at a place that ended up having some of the previous XFactor contestants give a free concert.

So DCNita, this is pretty much a long-term permanent settlement for you? If so, then I hope you really like it here.
