I've taken the megabus to Las Vegas before and it's very inexpensive. We're going again in March and got tickets for only $1 since we were able to book so far ahead of time. Every trip has a few seats at that price, and then the price goes up from there. You catch it at Union Station.

Well, my first trip to Las Vegas on the Megabus was back when they were first in California some years ago. We went on a weekday and there weren't a whole lot of people. I guess that's why they stopped running the buses back then. The people that were riding were of all ages and types and there was no unpleasantness.

A more recent trip to San Francisco was quite full and more younger people than old or middle-aged. I was told it was a bit noisier on the upper level, though I couldn't hear anything down below.

I haven't been on a Greyhound bus in many years and if it's as bad some people say it is (I suspect some of it is exaggeration) then Megabus is WAY better. I would definitely recommend this service to anyone who wants to save some money, even those averse to taking any kind of bus. Think of it as an adventure I say. You may not ever want to do it again or you may be hooked.

Just curious, about how far ahead of time would you need to book your tickets to get them for $1?

It depends on where you're going, what day of the week, and time of day. We made our reservations 2 months ahead of time and right now there are still seats on the bus we're leaving on for about $20 each way. That's still cheap but for the $1 dollar seats you just have to go to their website and keep plugging in dates you know you can go, and then check the various prices.

Once we got a $1 ride somewhere one way but paid somewhat more coming back. This time we were lucky to get the $1 fare both ways.
