Sad but seems true....Cali is beyond expensive unless you are some sort of celebrity or have a stable career of 100k a year income with no family. As someone said in another post on here, even the worst areas/neighborhoods in Cali are expensive. I'm no director, screen writer, model,or actor, guess I'm stuck on the east coast for life.....don't know how u guys do it,must have some sort of magically powers to hold down families there and live comfortably.

It's not all glamour here. All that is BS.

I want to live in NYC for a while, but THAT'S expensive.

IDK what to say about your situation, but your not missing a whole lot.

I havent gone to the beach all year. It's Moderator cut: expletive hot, traffic sucks, transit is not up to par, west side is lame, smog, downtown is as sketchy as NYC(from what I've heard about NYC), homeless everywhere, gangs, Hollywood is full of weirdos, people drive crazy in Glendale, the beaches are dirty, the rich are too spoiled etc.

I love L.A., not of the above mean that LA is overall bad.

The reality is that it's not all happy go lucky over here. It really isn't. You dont need to be a screenwriter. It's a stupid misconception and I'd appreciate if you stopped thinking that. Most of us here are normal working people, not hollywood wannabe's.

There is a 50/50 chance you'll regret comming here.

Just as Robert Downy Jr. Said:

Houston is America's best kept secret. I am sure Pittsburgh is too. Houston is what I call a "poor man's LA", with none of the major problems of the town.

Some people rent. Some people buy in less expensive parts of LA.

I actually don't understand what the problem is. These are all homes or townhomes that sold in the past 3 months, safe neighborhoods, above average schools, located near jobs. With 20% down and good credit, monthly payment on a $300K home is appx $1100/mo.

Part of the problem could be that some people out here have to change their mentality from thinking they must live in a large SFR when they could easily afford a smaller and attractive townhouse/condo; or even a smaller detached SFR.

The average Californian makes much less than $100K/year. What's your housing budget and what sort of lifestyle do you wish? Someone in C-D land might be able to help you.

CA is a huge and amazingly beautiful state, and you might be able to find what you seek.
