Lipa used to give you postage-paid envelopes. They stopped doing that and now I have to use my own stamps.

If you have Teachers Federal Credit Union, you can use the Free bill payer to pay LIPA. They didn't offer that option for a long time, but started to before they took away the stamps. I haven't used stamps or wrote a check in so long, I'm not sure I remember how those things work! LOL!

Latest bill was almost $400, about a 30% increase above my usual, but I have a large house and some window ACs. It's still too much and I think I'm gonna unscrew the bulbs in the sensor lighting outside. I never turn my porch light anymore.

Your bank should have free online bill payments and LIPA payments transmit electronically so you can save on stamps that way.

Wow, I thought my bill was bad last month at $268. I have a 1200sq ft one story house and one window a/c. All electric. Did the CFL thing, unplug all appliances not in use, cook using a crock pot or the outside grill when I can, turning off all unneeded lights, etc. I did run the window a/c for a few days nonstop -kept at 77 during the day so the room was semi dry at least when I got home, and 72 when I first got home, then back up to 74-75 overnight. This bill was over $100 more than last month.

I don't see how this is remotely possible. That's 10 times the average bill. WHo are you talking to at LIPA?

I've never had a bill over $170 in the past and this months was $220..and that's after having replaced an old air conditioner with a newer higher efficiency unit.

As for the OP I haven't read the whole thread, but have you physically gone down to a LIPA office? I'd make my presence felt, it's too easy for them to dismiss you on the phone.
